This merger (Plus AS' upcoming order for 60 new RJ's) should put some additional pressure on WN's West Coast [intra-CA] network.

Well, they're going the exact opposite way. AS used to have a tight relationship with DL (including cross-benefits for elites), now that's most if not all in the process of disappearing, due in part to the "war over Seattle". DL dropped interlining with AS a few months back.
In any case, the anti-trust watchdogs are not likely to approve a merger among any combination of what will now be the top 5 (after AS merges with VX).
