OBSERVATIONS: no2chem has likely found the basis of the methodology WN uses to determine which ratio applies -- the applicable ratio appears to be based on the cheapest available paid WGA fare class bucket, according to the following (as of 4/17/2015):

WGA Fare Classes = Applicable Ratio
nsx has verified that as of April 29, 2016 all five 70-point fare classes are 72 points per $
T = 72 pts / $ 70 pts /$ ($52.93/3705)
N = 72 pts / $ 70 pts /$ ($77.12/5398)
M = 72 pts / $ 70 pts /$ ($147.35/10315)
S = 72 pts / $ 70 pts / $ ($93.86/6570)
O = 72 pts / $ 70 pts / $ ($180.84/12659)
————
R = 74 pts / $ ($219.92/16273)
————
W = 76 pts / $ ($241.30/18339)
H = 76 pts / $ ($275.72/20955)
————
Q = 78 pts / $ ($238.98/18640)
B = 78 pts / $ ($276.19/21543)
————
L = 80 pts / $ ($331.05/26484)
————
AT Fare Classes = Applicable Ratio
YL = 100 pts /$ ($242.70/24270)
BS Fare Classes = Applicable Ratio
K = 120 pts/ $ ($458.41/55021)

However, without a subscription to Expert Flyer, it is difficult for most of us to determine the lowest paid fare class (it is shown in the emailed receipt after purchase and on the boarding pass...but, neither is too helpful). Also, KennyBSAT has found advance-purchase W fares, same-day M & S fares at 74 points/$.

EF has listed WN fare classes (never displaying more than 8) for as long as I've had a subscription. Generally if a flight is getting close to sold out, they won't show the numbers, but it's not unusual to see R8 O2 M2 S1 etc on the feed.

As found on April 20, both departures for June 17:
SAN-DCA Flt. 830/2162, 11,031 points, WGA base fare of $157.58,
70 points

SAN-IAD Flt. 900 (NS), 12,315 point, WGA base fare of $166.42,
74 points

Here, of course, you don't know if the IAD premium is for the airport or NS.

I was curious how holiday pricing may shake-out. So, I looked at a couple non-stops on the same route for Memorial Day 2015 - the least expensive WGA fare and most expensive WGA fare on the route:

BOS-MDW (WN#1895) 5:45am, Monday, May 25, 2015 [Memorial Day] (WGA fare):
5,659 Points required
$80.84 Base Fare ($101.00 all-in fare)
70 points/$1 of WGA Base Fare
[found 4/21/2015]

BOS-MDW (WN#3967) 5:00pm, Monday, May 25, 2015 [Memorial Day] (WGA fare):
19,583 Points required
$251.07 Base Fare ($284.00 all-in fare)
78 points/$1 of WGA Base Fare
[found 4/21/2015]

So, 70 pts/$1 are available on peak travel days; but, likely only on the cheapest WGA fare buckets.

You gotta wonder ... why keep all this a secret?

It took a couple of you true super expert flyers between 1-4 days to figure out what appears to the system.

There are certainly a lot fewer secrets in the age of the Internet.

Thanks for the analysis!

Because every time there is a devaluation, people on FT and the like moan and groan about it (for good reason). They also have to occasionally break the bad news to their customers, depending on the exact change ('hey, we are making your points worth even less now!').

With this, they never have to officially recognize and notify us about devaluations ever again, on the WGA redemption side at least. If they said 'you can now redeem for WGA tickets at rates between 70 and 80 points per dollar', they have to update that and provide notice whenever the range changes.

While 80/$1 seems to be the upper limit right now, I'm certain it won't be for long.

We are still going to moan and groan. That is what we do!

I am sure there will be a thread the first time someone sees a flight where the points meet/exceed 80pts/$1. And then 82 ... 84 ... Etc.

We have already found 80 pts/$1.

That's the point of this thread. So such a report, when found, should be posted in this same thread.

Folks, remember...don't believe everything bloggers say. Two bloggers now, inaccurately, claim both (1) to have found ratios of 65 points per $1 and (2) that it is BETTER than before the devaluation...but, they're not looking at BASE fare. If they were, they'd understand that (1) the ratios are actually in excess of 65 points per $1 and (2) it is NOT better than before the devaluation.

Here are two inaccurate blog posts regarding the ratios:

Southwest Points Are Now Worth MORE Than Before – Here’s When

Are Southwest Points Sometimes Worth Even More Post-Devaluation?

For more, see this FT post.

At least on the first link, they quickly corrected it, and gave you credit for teaching them. The second link (which surprises me he fell for it) still hasn't.... Really does go to show you cannot believe everything they write, and that some of them just parrot each other.

I have never found a blogger yet who really knows much about WN; it is pretty sad. And I have been watching for years.
