I got it. Haven't flown WN in a couple years (let 222 points expire a few months ago as they didn't seem to be worth saving).

No luv here. Wish they would throw multi-year AP & CP fliers a points promotion or an occasional pleasant surprise. Nada.

Nothing here. This is a VERY short term promotion.

Personally, I'd prefer a little love in the fare department. Gasoline is down 40%, Southwest fares 0%. We deserve a break.

I totally agree. I knew this would happen when we let NW,CO,HP,US,and Air Tran go away. Seems to me short haul Southwest fares were $39 when oil was $45. Now a short hop is typically $80 if you are lucky.

Hear that, I can barely get AT fares under $500 for less than 1/2 the country. No promo here but I'm 91% to A List already.

But flights are full, a different Management is in place recording record profits, competition is nearly non existent. They won't budge until they have to (disaster, recession, etc...)

That's exactly why this happening. Four airlines control 80% of the US market and their planes are full. With planes flying full, none of the airlines have any financial motivation whatsoever to lower prices. They're using this extra money to pay down debt and for stock buybacks and dividends.

And I don't see this changing any time soon. None of the major carriers are adding any kind of significant flight volume to open spaces. And with oil expected to go back up fairly significantly in the next year or so, none of the smaller airlines are likely to invest in more aircraft in order to open up more seats.

The best hedge against WN ticket price has been WN stock, up almost 4X in 18 months. Says he who didn't buy any.

Better hedge oil while you are at it.
