Somehow I thought this was resolved months ago, but I guess the judge had to issue a final ruling, which came this week:

http://www.courthousenews.com/2013/08/28/60692.htm

Are the 2 lead plaintiffs Flyertalkers?

$3 mill for the lawyers is asked and still under consideration by judge, it appears.

In addition, Southwest agreed that if it issues any drink coupons in the future without an expiration date, it must honor the coupons on any Southwest flight at any time.
If only they had just done that in the first place.

I'm still not fully understanding why a suit including *all* drink coupons wasn't pursued.

My guess is that when the old drink coupons were EOL there was a substantial warning and that mitigated the impact. I doubt a court would enforce a perpetual coupon.

Coupons

Too bad this settlement did not include all the tan ones with no date on them
I have about 30 of them. I guess I should just toss them.

That's exactly what the court ordered going forward, as I posted above.

Only if they issue new coupons with no expiration date. I doubt that Southwest will ever do that again.

They still don't get that even the most hard core business drinker isn't gonna want 2 drinks 6am Monday morning (I always connect).

So the want of a simple system to cut down "abuse" (here's your drink coupons Mr. X, enjoy your flight) cost them $29 Million? (Although I'm sure they just raised fares). Someone's head should roll...

No.

And the flight attendants often reinforce this rule by announcing they will only take "valid, unexpired" coupons.

You might find a forgiving FA, but now when they expire, they are expired.

I had a long flight and when the FA took my order I purposely gave her three coupons for the double I ordered. She noticed and tried to give one back. I said I noticed it was expired and gave it to her to throw away.

She brought back my two minis and one of the unexpired coupons.

BTW, anyone ever get something from the class action suit referenced above in 2013? I vaguely recall filling something out. Don't recall getting anything.

I almost always try to get drinks with expired coupons first. If the FA turns me down, I just say something like "oops, grabbed an old one" and hand them a non-expired one. I'd say my batting average is pretty good... probably 2/3 of the time the FA takes the expired coupon.

Was listening in on a local sports radio station and heard some legal spokesperson entwine NCAA lawsuits with "an airline that stopped honoring drink tickets". Person mentioned that lawsuit was worth $30 million, close enough to the $29 million announced in the link a few posts back.
