You'd think whomever is purchasing fuel would be thrilled if anyone wanted to purchase a non-refundable fare for someone who weighs nothing and has no luggage.

Except that Southwest's software does not know how to sell such a ticket. There actually is no such thing as a non-refundable, non-reusable ticket on Southwest. You could no-show the second seat as soon as you saw the passenger count, and Southwest would lose that revenue.

Why not just buy 1 wanna get away ticket, 136 anytime tickets, and no-show for all of the anytime tickets? You'll get the whole plane to yourself, 3 FAs, and a refund for the anytime tickets.

Or just buy enough refundable tickets for all of the middle seats and no-show the refundables.

No CP or POS schenanigans needed. Just lots of (refundable) cash or points to outlay.

What rule am I missing here? (other than you'd probably be banned from the airline after pulling that stunt once)

This probably runs afoul of the Speculative Booking rules. But, like you said, you are going to be banned anyway. You will likely get caught before that, especially if you book them all while logged in.

You may not use Southwest's sites to make any speculative, fraudulent, or false reservation or any reservation in anticipation of demand. If you have made multiple reservations to one or more destinations on or about the same date, Southwest reserves the right to cancel all such reservations without notice.

The rule that your handle has to be human-readable. But seriously, PM me if you want to change that monstrosity!
