Watching the Shuttle launch

Turns out that I'm going to be in South Florida on the day that the Shuttle is scheduled to launch (May 12). Just wondering if anyone has gone to watch a launch and has any tips. All of the NASA tickets are completely sold out, but they list some locations close by where you should be able to see the shuttle once it has left the ground.

If I go, it will involve a 6 hour round trip drive (from Hollywood), so I'm trying to make the most of the experience.

And yes, I know that the launch can be cancelled at the last second.

Thanks!

Since you can't get a ticket, I recommend viewing the launch from Jetty Park in the town of Cape Canaveral. If the crowd on the pier is too large, you can walk out on the beach.
