Question Lodging in Savannah

Hubby and I want to go to Savannah for the first time. I've searched, but there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive Savannah lodging thread. Whether it is a chain or not, where would you stay in Savannah? I've never stayed at a B&B, and usually go for points, but Savannah seems to be the place to try a B&B unless there is a chain hotel that has lots of character.

We are leaning toward August, but don't have a definite date either, so suggestions as to when to go would also be appreciated. Thanks!

Lots of beautiful B&B's in Savannah. Most are located on the city's squares. You can find them at this B&B website

As for chain hotels, there is the Hyatt right on the River Street. Obviously its a pretty nice hotel and if you get a room on the river side you have some great views of the ships passing by.

To get the most out of your stay, you should find a hotel or B&B that is between West Liberty Street to the south, MLK Blvd to the west and East Broad Street to the East. This will ensure that you are in the middle of the historic district and within an easy walk of everything worth seeing in downtown Savannah.

Savannah is truly a gem.......enjoy!

This is the only hotel we stay at when we go to Savannah. Opt for the SPG upgraded room with riverview. Rcvd early check-in (10am) and late check-out (5:45). great stay

For a chain property with character, I've stayed at the Hampton Inn. You heard correctly, Hampton Inn. I believe it's a modern building constructed from old materials; old brick, hardwood floors (lobby only) with plantation shutters and a great view of Bay street, close to all the action day and night.

SAV Marriott Riverfront Hotel

All of the above have great location and are great places to stay.

I would like to add one though. The Marriott Riverfront is at the end of the riverwalk. A bit out of the way (though very slightly), it is a very nice place to stay and parking is very convenient (though with daily charge of course).

I have stayed there 3 times and each time been on the 8th floor riverview. Watching the freighters glide by as if one can almost reach out and touch them is quite the treat.
