Key West Tickets?

I currently live in Gainesville. I have been trying to find some cheap weekend tickets to Key West. Does anyone know where I might find the cheapest flights down there? Which airport would be the best to leave from? Jacksonville?Tampa?

Lightbulb Time to drive?

Being one who has tried to find inexpensive tix to Key West (although I'm trying to flee Northern OH weather ) I've not had much luck this time of year. It's getting to be the busy season, and with the Key West airport (EYW) not being able to handle anything larger than a commuter plane, flights there are hard to come by inexpensively. That being said, do you have time to fly into Miami (of Lauderdale), then take the rest of the day to drive and enjoy the Keys by car to get to Key West? Flights into MIA are probably cheaper than getting to EYW (probably including the rental costs).

I've done the drive a few times and it's a nice trip.

Eek. Cheap tix to EYW is an impossibility...

late Feb-late April is prime spring break territory and most of the smaller jets coming into the Keys are booked solid. Booking about 5 mo's out, i couldn't find anything less than $500/ticket. I'm headed down from 3/15-19 and had to lay out a considerable amount of cash to get myself and three friends onto the island.

The problem with getting to EYW on-the-cheap has always been the lack of larger aircraft landing on the island. With AA eagle, CO connection and DL regional jets only holding so many people, the seats tend to sell-out quickly, which drives prices skyhigh. Right now, it's nearly impossible to find anything commercial to Key West for less than $600.

I bid thee a good luck.
