Moving to Charlotte
My company made me live a year in Ithaca, NY, but that year will be over in March and I hope to move back South. I have friends and family who live in the Pineville/Matthews area so I know how the traffic can be on Pineville-Matthews road.
I would like suggestions for townhouse communities that will have a good commute to CLT. I know the UNC-Charlotte is a better part of town for young people, but in my experience that is not a fun drive to/from CLT.

If your main concern is travel time to/from CLT, then what time do you expect to travel? I moved to CLT about 6 months ago (Ballantyne area), and have not found any issues with traffic when doing the typical early AM flight out and late Evening return. At these times, this trip never takes me more than 30min.
Leaving in the mid morning or trying to get home from CLT between 4-6pm would probably be the worst you'd have to deal with.
As for alternatives to UNCC, have you considered living uptown?

The above poster is correct. Timing is everything with the traffic here. I live just across the line in SC and don't really have too many traffic problems commuting. I am a REALTOR in the area, so if you have any specific questions about a particular area (although it sounds like you are already pretty familar with the area) just send me a PM or e-mail.
