What part of Orlando will you be working in? Orlando is spread out and you wouldn't want to have an apartment in Winter Park if you are working at Universal.

also... define affordable.

If you're looking at under $800/month, you're going to the hood

If you haven't moved yet, here's my advice on one area with a lot of apartments: MetroWest.

MetroWest used to be a wonderful area with nice apartments. However, just north of there is an area called Pine Hills, which has a high crime rate. After about 2001, when a super walmart was built in MetroWest, the crime rate went up a bit. I lived in a place called Marina Landing, which was beautiful. My balcony even overlooked a large lake. When I moved out of Orlando in 2002 I suggested management gate the community. They since have, but I believe someone was murdered there last year nonetheless. To get back to my original point, if you decide to live in the MetroWest area, which still has many positives, stick to the area further south along Kirkman Road, closer to Universal Studios, and stay away from the areas further north, closer to The East West Expressway and Colonial Dr. (SR 50).

I lived in MetroWest on 2000, it was fairly safe then. Now it's gotten pretty dangerous, there have been a few murders there in the last couple of months. I was looking at condos there recently and have decided to avoid the area. Sad because it was very convienent to the airport, shopping, downtown, etc.
