I've never tried it, and I'm not surprised to hear you hated it. Any restaurant that has to market itself THAT much is almost certainly lacking in key areas. In a place like Orlando, some businesses clearly are not looking for repeat business--they just want to sucker as many first-time customers as possible. Charley's (and Fish Bones), with all their cab-top billboards and ads in every tourist magazine seems like just such a place.

We've eaten there many times, both at the Irlo Bronson Hwy location as well as the one on I Drive. Hubby much prefers I Drive but they both seemed fine to me. They cook their prime steaks over orange and oak wood chips so the distinctive flavor may be a little different and might be a bit unusual for some.
Though I know some people have had bad experiences there, and I do think the quality has gone down a bit in the past few years, we still have never had a bad steak there.

Wouldn't say it was a bad experience (wait staff was friendly), just food was not good.

I took a group of people to the International Drive location in February--it was excellent. Everyone loved the food. Maybe I just lucked out.

FWIW, I just posted our experience at Charley's in this thread:

I hadn't noticed the specific thread related to Charley's, or I would have posted here instead.

Used to eat at the original Charleys (on O.B.T.) but during the long term road reconstruction it went way down in my estimation. The I-drive & Kissimmee locations were more tourist focused (i.e. more expensive) and not as good quality. Our last visit was quite some time ago, but the service was extremely poor and the server couldn't have cared less, so they lost our custom.
