First time in Miami with 6 years old in early Janurary worth it?

The closest beach to Orlando, which is the only place we go outside of illinois looks bad , grey sand and lots of seaweed so these are not as good as the beaches in Miami right? The ticket price for one day at Walt disney magic kingdom is like $200 with tax in first week of Jan for one person . We have been to Orlando 3 times and have been to the attractions except for Disney and the thrill ride attractions..

Maybe we should do few days in Miami only this time in early Jan.

What area should we stay at? The beach called south beach is the popular beach for families right? clean sandy wide open beach for kids to play and wave to play for the parents? the zoo is nice to go and see and any kids museum. not in to science so no spaceships for us.

Can you recommend an area we should stay at and places we can go to including the beach? we will stay for like 5 to 6 days, thanks

Have you considered Clearwater Beach (and the Tampa/St. Petersburg area)? It's one of the best beaches in Florida, and often voted one of the best beaches in the U.S.

The beaches at Cocoa Beach (an hour east of Orlando) are nice and much more family friendly than South Beach - which is very not family friendly (think European beach rules).
The Miami zoo is probably 45 minutes to an hour away from South Beach.
I agree with the Gulf area suggestions. Panhandle can be a bit chilly in January.
