Tailor in Miami

Sorry for posting this here, but the BAEC section of the forum is by far the most active/helpful.

I am currently on a sabbatical trip with nothing but 1 carry on. So no suits or dinner jacket in my bags. Did not expect to need them. Now all of a sudden a wedding has turned up on the last leg of my trip (Miami) but I will need a suit and a dinner jacket. Now I do have them at home so I am looking to spend around a $1000 each, max. I do need them tailored (I don't like the off the rack look) and done within 4 days...

Help! Does anybody know a good tailor in Miami?

Please...

4 days?!

Wouldn't it be easier to get someone who has the keys to your home to have one of your suits and your dinner jacket DHL'd out to you?

Agreed. Get someone to FedEx your morning suit out to you.

My suits take about 6-8 weeks and four trips to the tailor to make. I know there are goblins in the Far East that claim to be able to do it all much faster, but I am sceptical. I don't know if Miami even has goblins.

Yeah, had that done a couple of times in HKG and India. Not with the best results I must agree.

I had some off the rack suits altered in NYC within 2 days once and that wasn't half bad. Maybe I will do that.

The words "tailor" and "American" are generally self-cancelling, unless you are a fan of draped jackets and trousers baggy enough for 2 people.

Possible in NY or LA, perhaps, but .... Miami?

If I recall correctly the nearest good tailor to Miami is on Saville Row, London. If that is a little out of your way then may I recommend as per earlier posts a good friend forwards your attire via UPS to ensure you are suitably dressed.

Failing that Sawgrass Mills Designer outlet Fort Lauderdale for a reasonably priced off the peg number. I got a great Hugo Boss suit for $200 bucks a year or so ago. With accessories (Shoes, Shirt & Tie)) I got the whole ensemble for approx $300. I too had a formal function to go to - the office I was working in was jeans and t-shirt.

Remember you can always hire a Tux - just buy your own shirt to avoid the frilly variety is my experience with these matters.

This is where I go to have alterations done:

Julca Tailor Shop
1741 Coral Way
(305) 856-7776

It came highly recommended, and I have not been disapointed. Not sure about the tight turn around time, but you can always call and ask.

You are not going to get a bespoke suit in Miami. You can try Brooks Brothers or Nordstrom's and their tailors could have you set within a few days for a few extra bucks. The earlier suggestion to ship your suits to your Miami hotel may be the best. OTOH, Miami is casual. Wear flip flops, shorts and a flowered shirt.
