Getting to SCL

I'm heading down to SCL on a business trip and could fly AA direct from DFW or fly Star Alliance partners with a connection in PTY. How are connections in PTY...if it's a total pain in the ..., I may opt for the flight on AA. Would hate to miss out on getting these miles onto my UA account though..

Any thoughts/tips are appreciated.

It is a long trip on smallish planes with typically odd hour connections. I've never done it. It sounds painful. I await your trip report!

How about UA to EZE then AC to SCL?
That'll get your miles in your UA account

Or TACA via Lima and wherever else they might send you in Central America

Shame Avianca isn't signed up yet, you can get UA credited to AV but seemingly not the other way around. Avianca has some nice new A330s

That includes about 6 hours of luxury @ EZE. But hey, for UA miles to SCL, it may be about as good as it gets.
