Question USA / Hilton ... whole chain going non-smoking? [RUMOR]

Currently in a smoking suite (1 of 7 here) at the Homewood Suites in PHX/Chandler. Aware that they are planning an imminent refurbishment, we checked at the front desk and, yes, once that’s done they will be all non-smoking. Also advised that the No Smoking policy is being rolled out across ALL Hilton chain properties.

Have just checked with the Hawthorn Suites down the street ... they have 3 smoking rooms, and front desk said they’re always full! About to make a reservation there for next January.

Goodbye, Hilton. It was nice being HHons Gold while it lasted.

I’m not surprised. Given the extra costs involved, going non-smoking is probably the easiest. Plus they get to ding people $200-300 for smoking in rooms. I’m sure there will always be some minor chains that allow smoking for the diehards.

I have been able to find some HHonors properties in Europe that allow smoking. Once that ends I will turn in my HHonors Amex.

As far as I can tell, this applies only to the USA. If it goes worldwide, I will be turning in my Honors card too.

I think the Tropicana may prove to be the exception to the rule -- as it wants as many people as possible in the casino.

That said, double check your reservation at the last minute. A couple of years ago I had a reservation for a smoking room at the Doubletree near the Atlanta Airport. I called about a week beforehand and was told that the hotel had gone completely smoke-free. I canceled my reservation and stayed elsewhere.

I have a couple of reservations for later in the year too. Does anyone have any idea how long this will take to roll out?

goalie ... can you please add a ‘?’ to the end of the Thread title, please. This is, of course, only a Front Desk comment and not an official announcemen.

Bolding mine: Smoking rooms are confimed

Smoking rooms in both the Paradise tower (floor 2) and the Club tower (floor 18). I chose the Club Tower as I wanted a higher floor

Interesting. So profit is a higher priority than morality. Cool one, Hilton!

Agreed ^ and if you don't mind a walk to the Club Tower for a higher floor, you can get a great view*

*and sorry about the clarity as I took the shots thru the window of room 1880

also, here's what I posted about my experience over in the Hilton forum: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30295885-post267.html
