Duty Free - Where to buy?

I don't travel much internationally, nor do I typically buy duty free smokes.

I have a friend flying DFW-LHR-MAD, and I am flying DFW-FRA-MAN. Where along these journeys would it be most economical to buy him smokes? Here is the US, or one of the European cities? I imagine he is looking for american brands like camel or marlboro.

Thoughts?

I would say DFW. Certainly forget the idea of buying anything remotely tobacco related in the UK. Even the duty free prices are among the highest in the world.

FRA would be cheaper than LHR, but I can't remember whether it has arrivals duty free.

There is no duty free when travelling between EU member states, so you can't buy duty free at FRA departures heading for MAN.

LHR is the most expensive airport in Europe for duty free cigarettes.
Your best bet may be to buy them in DFW on your way out to Europe.
You will not be able to buy at DFW on your return trip.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice. I figured DFW was the best option. Appreciate the sage wisdom!

As a point of reference, UK airports are going to be around 44 GBP for a carton of 200 king-size. Some variance, obviously, but better than 90+ on the street!

44GBP is similar to the street price in much of the rest of Europe. Germany is around 60EUR for 200. In Austria I pay 45.60EUR for 8 x 23 Marlboro Reds.

In FRA, a carton (200 pcs.) of Marlboro etc. runs EUR 48.00. MAD charges EUR 51.50 for the same.

Just came back from MAD, duty free (flying out of EU) you can buy a carton of Marlboro for €42 (street price in Spain is €5 a pack). If you buy on Iberia in flight duty free I believe it’s €38.
