Around the World Questions
Anyone who has gone on an around the world trip (where you can travel to multiple places if you keep going in the same direction). Would you list where you started, where you went and in what month? I'm trying to figure out our trip plan (if I get enough miles, almost there), and when we should go. I work so can only go for 6-7 weeks. (I know, not much time, but it's better than nothing) Also, if you have any recommendations (good or bad) on places, when to travel, weather. Thanks, Darwin

Can I use NW miles for delta flights? I have almost enough NW miles for this trip and haven't been too many places. We really want to keep it to the easier to get at airports and ones that are easier to get with frequent flyer miles. What happens if I book this entire trip using my ff miles, then a month before I fly, they cancel one of the flights. How will I get another flight using the frequent flyer miles. When you fly the around the world using NW miles, do you have to only fly the flights that have a frequent flyer ticket available?

My wife and daughter are doing a RTW using NW miles this summer. 140,000 each.
It took a couple of hours to make this happen and I changed flights after the original booking; being platinum this was free.
ORD-AMS (staying night but since leaving within 24 hours does not count as a stop.
AMS-CDG (AF)
CDG-FCO (Alitalia)
FCO-ATH (Alitalia)
ATH-NRT (KLM) - Aeroflot was also an option
Staying night
NRT-PEK (NW)
PEK-HNL (NW)
HNL-ORD
THey are going to be gone for one month. Any SKyteam, except Korean during th summer. Korean does not allow for mileage during the summer.
Three stops on any continent
Six stops total
Always go same direction
24 hours stopovers does not effect the E-W or W-E part of rules
IF Aeroflot was used a paper ticket would kick in; in this case all electronic
In my opinion this is a great use of 140,000 miles.
I chose East direction so the wind would be at their backs to allow for a little less flight time. I also upgraded my World Perks membership to include spouse. They pro-rate the 130 fee to ensure the spouse on ends at the same time as mine.

Not sure when in the thread this made it over to the SkyTeam forum - which is where the discussion belongs. There is a great thread that is a sticky in the forum with lots of good information about routings and such. I highly recommend that you use that thread for any additional questions about RTW stuff for two reasons. First, it keeps all the RTW information/answers in a central place for future searchers; and, second, the thread is already there and may already have answers to the questions.
