Joining a Second FFP in SkyTeam?

I forsee future travels using Emirates. Their SkyWards program, in my opinion, is still lagging behind. Not to mention a lack of a global alliance.

Now, the OnePass program not only allows the earning of Emirates miles flown, but also 100% Elite qualification miles. I am already a NW WorldPerks member, achieveing Plat the last 3 years.

Would it be advisable to join a second FFP within SkyTeam for the sake of earning Emirates, EVA Air or Virgin miles? Or should I join a different FFP, on say StarAlliance, that also allows earning 100% Tier miles with Emirates?

The first year is difficult if you're doing two different programs in the same alliance, since you won't have any status on the flights which are credited to the new program. If you do the second program on a different alliance, you can do a status match.

(you still will get to use the elite check in lines, but you won't get any upgrades, preferred seating, or other perks until you get status on program #2)

Hi Gargoyle,
I'm going into my 2nd year as an Elite member of OnePass . . .
How does status match work between alliances?
Gladly appreciate a consult on this one.
Thanks!

* OnePass Elite qualification miles and points and Elite mileage bonuses may only be earned on Continental Airlines codeshare flights operated by Emirates connecting in London Gatwick (LGW) to/from Dubai.

For status match with an airline not in SkyTeam, see the Status Match Master Thread. Note that it is generally a once in a lifetime thing, so do it only when it really is right for you.

Within SkyTeam, it wil almost never happen. They don't want to poach each others customers. Perhaps if you move from one airlines hub to a different airlines hub, and can convince them that there is a compelling reason, they might, but I'm not sure about it.
