To my knowledge, Continental is sponsoring COPA as an associate member of SkyTeam. As to date, I am not sure of the status of negotiations and whether they meet the requirements for entry as an associate.
Any updated news? What are the requirements by the way?
COPA is THE BEST CENTRAL AMERICAN CARRIER! I simply love it, and words cannot describe my love for it! I have a COPA mousepad, model, polo shirt. .. two COPA hats. Get my point?

On the ST-Website they say "Launching the SkyTeam Associate Program with six Associate Airline candidates to date: Air Europa of Spain, Copa of Panama, Kenya Airways, Middle East Airlines of Lebanon, Portugalia Airlines of Portugal and Tarom of Romania" (http://www.skyteam.com/EN/aboutSkyte.../pr280606.jsp).

Unfortunately, the process hasn't been completed yet. The easiest way to tell if you can earn miles on Copa is to check the listing of frequent flyer program partners on your preferred carrier's website. Until your carrier announces it has implemented an agreement with Copa, you can't earn miles.

I especially love the afternoon flight from EZE to PTY to JFK that arrives just after midnight.

Note that it is only sponsoring it's membership process. I'm not sure if it is already finalized.

Thanks for the heads-up on that. I was a bit fuzzy on the status of processing the membership. Usually, one would know as COPA would put it on its press releases on their website.
Remember, fly COPA AIRLINES!!!
