Skyteam Transit? - Athens, Greece
We have a Delta flight (DL 138) that lands in Athens at 10:50 AM from Atlanta. I am trying to find out what is reasonable transit time to catch another flight out of Athens.
Alitalia has a 12:50 pm flight onward to Milan. We are trying to figure out if it is reasonable to clear customs in Athens and then check back in and clear security within two hours.
My gut is that it is tight and we'd be better to book the 6:00 pm flight and go standby for the 12:50 if lines are short.
-- Does anyone have experience trying a transit like this in Athens?
Oh, and any reasonable person would also ask "why are we doing this?" Well, Skysaver BE tickets using old miles makes a little detour worthwhile.
Many thanks!

Hi there
I actually think it will be OK. ATH is not that big and relatively empty most of the time. I have transitted there quite a few times, incl. on connections similar to yours (i.e where I had to go through immigration, back into the departures hall, check in etc). It's doable. Moreover, since it's SkyTeam, DL may even check you through all the way to MXP. And even if not, since your ATH-MXP flight is within the Schengen area, there will be no immigration (passport control) on that leg so you should sail through.
