Skyteam to Europe
Flew from JFK to CDG on 3/21 on DL 16, which was an M11. As to be expecetd, it was delayed. Not sure why, but seems like the usual mechanical problems. B/E was great though, as the seats were wider. The M11 is an incredibly spacious aircraft. Arrived in CDG and had the usual bus nonsense - it is beyond me why there aren't enough gates.
Stayed in Paris and the took an AF flight from CDG to BUD. Was given an operational/complimentary upgrade as flight was oversold by AF agent. Checked in on the Business Class line - agent recognized and welcomed the DL Gold status.
On the trip back had an AF code on a OK operated flight from PRA to CDG. Flight was fine, full. No upgrade; service and seats were great. Bags were not checked thru all the way to JFK and so had to collect luggage and switch terminals at CDG. B/E-Medallion check-in was fine, though one should remember that it is always check-in #3 in Terminal 2C.
I was on DL 17, which appeared to be packed. Security at CDG is a joke. My boots set off the metal detector, and the security person half-heartedly wanded me while speaking to his buddy about his weekend. Asked about operational upgrade at the gate, and got a flat no from an AF agent. Did not see a Delta representative in site, though the CDG waiting areas for departures are ridiculously small. Boarding gate was switched and the usual scramble began. There was no formal call for boarding, people just started to line up and they eventually started taking boarding passes. There was no initial call for Medallions or B/E. Herded onto a bus and then onto the B777. A fine craft, except for the seating in coach, which is horrendous. Firstly, it has a 2-5-2 config - I pitty the individual that is in the middle of the 5. I had a window seat. Big mistake. All the coach seats have individual video screens and consoles. However, the machinery for all that sits in a big box under each window seat leaving no room to stretch your legs out and absolutely no space for carry-ons. I was barely able to fit my boots under the seat in front of me. Food was fine, though quantity was questionable. Other than that flight was great.
DL does need to work on the coach seating in the B777 - I had the one with the SLC livery. If that coach config is like the others, I would say stick to the B763 if you're flying coach. The B/E on the 777 seemed to have the wider seats.
Lastly, the ameninty kits are now a cloth sack . . . almost completely useless.
