associate status & Kenya airways

anyone know when KQ would become an associate member? The website says 06 but would that happen, from experiences with ST everything moves so slowly. Also what exactly is the meaning of associate status? Someone said that you can't redeem miles - is that true?

Associate status means they don't get to vote in alliance-wide decisions and they don't get to keep their own FFP (note that KQ doesn't have one anyway - they use KL/AF's Flying Blue). You should definitely be able to earn and redeem miles on an associate member.

So this gives up a lucrative business to the other airline programs. I wonder what this does to the associate's bottom line? Also still wonder what cost difference it is between associate vs full alliance membership....

As an ex KL FF, and now FB member, I earm and burn miles on KQ. My earning miles are definitelt status miles.

I fly KQ in preference to AF & KL, as KQ definitely have better on board service !
