Need advice on what do about cancelled flight

Hi all, I need some advice about what to do about my cancelled flight. Delta canceled my flight and so I was unable to meet my connecting AeroMexico flight...Delta told me there was nothing they could do for me that day so I asked for a refund (having limited vacation days). I came home...looked up some flights and fouund plenty leaving the airport I needed. I got my refund through Orbitz and am now mad at Delta...I walked away from them with not so much as an inflight beverage ticket. Does anyone have any advice or know what I should ask for from Delta? Thanks.

I would first call up customer service and explain what happened. Tell them how disappointed you were, especailly when you could have purchased seats online. You checked when you got home. They can verify seat availability on previous flights to determine if indeed the planes went out with empty seats. If they did, I would tell them that you would like to be compensated in some way. Tell them that you would like to consider fliying Delta in the future but felt that you were not treated nicely. If this does not work, MAIL (do not E-Mail) a letter to the corporate customer care in Atlanta. An alternative, is to call Atlanta's main Delta switch board and ask to speak to executive customer care and go through the same thing. Let us know on FT what happens.

BTW, WELCOME to Flyertalk!! We are glad to have you onboard!

I was in the same situation with DL on my way back from a trip several years back. Connecting flight cancelled, no word when checking in, no apology, nothing they could do, several hours delay getting back to work etc. Apparently there is no compensation required for cancelled flights and rebooking is on space-avaiable basis only. I've not flown them since and will go out of my way to keep it that way.
