I would add these to the "Rumored to Join" list, as I have read articles to that effect over the past few months:

Royal Jordanian
MEA

Topping my "Nice to Have Join" list would be:

JAL (the real plum for any alliance)
Emirates

I'd swap around a bit here.

NW and Co are confirmed to join as is KLM.

Aeroflot would still be rumoured as would be Malev and others.

Other likely ones would include Malaysian and SAA.

SAA committed to *A a few days ago. There's a thread in that forum about it.

No, a journalist in South Africa who knows little about the industry, cited no real sources and made a few rudimentary mistakes, claimed that this was going to happen.

Another idiot German journalist who scours FT for "news" used this original article as a "source" and cited it as his proof.

Several FT'ers jumped on the first news as "proof" and the second article as gospel.

So far it is just nonsense.

That's good news hfly. I was disappointed that SAA had selected *A over ST. I'm glad to hear that there's still hope as they would make a great addition to ST!

The reason why KLM and Aeroflot are "confirmed to join" is that there are press releases on www.skyteam.com mentioning Aeroflot's and KLM's "bid for membership".

There is no application or bid announcement for NW or CO yet.

No, but as far as NW is concerned their Chairman has made several public references to joining ST in the near future.

Personally I think that SAA will either go ST or just partner with everyone as they see fit. they are in a pretty unique position and can afford to "sleep around"

Newbie, I've already conceded over on the other thread yesterday. Don't see why I have to be lambasted because you didn't see it.

I thought NW and CO were going to join SkyTeam in June 2004. Shouldn't an annoucement come soon?

I've heard May. Richard Anderson has stated in his press conferences that they are looking at a late spring entry into skyteam.

Looks like only time will tell now...

Articles that I have quoted on FT taken from Aviation Week have also quoted AF sources as strongly touting both Royal Air Maroc and Tunis Air for "associate" membership in ST.
AF has equity positions in both carriers.
