New (= higher) award mileage needed from 16 March 2004
I noticed this today - hadn't seen it before, so apologies if ...
DL posted new award charts for SkyTeam awards from 16 March 2004.
Highlights (lowlights?):
- business class between Europe and US (50 states), Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda and Central America increase by 12.5% from 80,000 to 90,000
- business class awards within Europe increase by 50% from 30,000 to 45,000;
- business class between Europ and the Indian sub-continent increase by 33.3% from 60,000 to 80,000
- new First award from Europe to the Indian sub-continent at 140,000
others unchanged.
Thoughts:
- presumably miles awarded on these routes will also be increased by 12.5%/33.3%/50% ?
- the intra-Europe rates are ludicrous - an economy award already costs more than 2 BA awards to many European destinations and a new business class award award to those destinations will cost almost as much as 2 BA biz awards .
- the biz and first awards from Europe to North America will still be lower than equivalent BA Miles awards.

[edited to clarify comparison with BA]

I wonder at pushing J and F transatlantic rewards so close together - 90K v. 100K... I wonder if it's an attempt to get more people redeeming F awards (which means Air France only, I think?) than J (where I suppose Delta BE would be a preferred option)?
