Depends on several factors: itinerary (and connecting airport), class of service, aircraft type, cost.
Of course, if with Freccia Alata you are able to upgrade on AZ...
I disagree with the unfavourable comments about Alitalia. In fact, it is arguably the best J service of the lot, for instance.

Without further information here's two rules of thumb:
1. You will benefit most from yiur status when flying the aurline that your frequent flyer program is from. So Alitalia in your case.
2. In Economy, European legacy carriers such as AF, KL, AZ, LH, OS, LX, BA offer a better product than the three big US carriers.
