Skyteam best FFP

Good morning and greetings to all,
I'm a new member and I'm aware some parts of my question may have been dealt in other threads. I'm sorry for this but I hope my question can be an useful summary for other members too.
I'm a member of Star Alliance SAS Eurobonus and now I want to choose a Skyteam FFP too. I would like your advise on what program to choose.
My features are:
- I flew with Skyteam airlines only a few times a year
- mostly european routes in economy classes

I would like a FFP with the following features:
- the longest possible expire date of miles
- the best earning rate (considering also possible minimum miles earnings on short route)
- low fuel or other charges on award tickets
- possibility to choose award tickets (only one way ticket too) online with Skyteam airlines
- as I don't fly often with Skyteam, my aim is to get award tickets every two/three years, I don't mind member status

Thanks for any help

First of all, welcome to FT and to the SkyTeam forum.

It helps that your post shows that you've clearly thought about what your FF program goals are as well as some details of your typical travel patterns, but picking the best FF program is truly a personal decision and can require a lot of research to be sure that one isn't overlooking a small program that might be a perfect fit. Ultimately you must weigh the tradeoffs yourself.

However, in your case, as much as I hate saying this, you might want to consider DL. Its miles do not expire, ever, according to current rules and its fees on award tickets tend to be reasonable compared to other SkyTeam partners for most tickets. (However, I believe FB just changed their policies so that one now pays more miles in exchange for award ticket fuel surcharge fees.) DL is pretty decent so far on giving full mileage credit for most fares, but be aware of a new rule (from several days ago) that consolidator and other discounted unpublished fare tickets not purchased through DL do not earn full miles. (There's a thread about this in the DL forum, but be sure to read the whole thing as some of the early posts were latere clarified and corrected.) The downside of DL is that many miles are required for award tickets as it can be very difficult to find low award inventory. (DL elites get enhanced inventory at low mileage levels for domestic coach tickets, but this wouldn't help you as you wouldn't have enough status miles for eliteness.) Another downside of DL is that one way award tickets cost the same number of miles as a round trip, so that DL offers oneway award tickets only in a technical and generally useless sense.

Since you're located in Europe, look at AZ as an alternative to FB (= AF/KLM). Some like AZ's FF program, but personally I don't like the airline. If you're accustomed to northern European efficiency, you could find it frustrating to deal with Alitalia. I would probably avoid Czech and even AirEuropa out of concern for their futures as airlines and possibly as SkyTeam members. Another European carrier with a SkyTeam FF program is SU, but this might be difficult to deal with, especially when there are problems, unless your Russian is fluent and, again, it would be helpful to be familiar with their way of doing things and dealing with problems.

Of the Asian carriers, the obvious ones to consider would be KE and CZ, although the latter recently made their FF program less attractive to some participants. (I'm not sure of the details, but some have been asking about what carrier to switch to from CZ.) Sometimes newer carriers and newer alliance members can be more generous, but a disadvantage can be a less well organized FF program.
