Other than the excessive heat, the one thing I hated about Thailand was the taxi drivers and other transportation people always trying to rip off the tourists. They might get us on the first day(damn tuktuk driver), but after that we are wise to your ways, except for the gullible wife.

If you are a DM, you probably have lots of miles to burn. I would definitely do it in business and you should be able to find low inventory for 120k miles per person.

You'll run into blackout dates on KE, so that airline is out. MU has availability to BKK via LAX on 12/20, however getting ATL-LAX on DL will be tougher.

You should also be able to route through LGA, EWR, or JFK on DL then do MU to BKK via PVG. It'll be easier to find ATL-NYC, but might be tougher finding NYC-BKK. I'm seeing availability on 12/19 and 12/23.

Getting back home is going to be tougher in business. I didn't spend a lot of time looking, but wasn't seeing good MU availability anywhere.

Another alternative is to get to SIN instead of BKK. There are plenty of flights between SIN and HKT and you should be able to grab one fairly cheap.

As I indicated upthread, CZ is awful outbound but great on the return. Worst case scenario, I'd do JFK-PVG-BKK-CAN-LAX on the award (all J) as an open jaw and pay for ATL-JFK and LAX-ATL. OP is DM and has time to try to add on the domestic segments (in Y if need be).

Another option is to fly Delta Air Lines all the way to Singapore and take either Tiger Airways or AirAsia for the short 95-minute flight to Phuket.

I have flown as a passenger on both airlines, and both offer clean, basic no-frills service for low airfares — especially when there is an airfare sale. The flights I took departed and landed on time. Just watch out for the extra fees, which are easily avoidable.

Am going to give Delta a call and see how they respond to the above...

If I then want to add on the ATL - JFK and LAX - ATL legs even in Y to get the same 120k millage price it would need to be low fair? Even if travelling in Y?

If considering Singapore are there any additional airlines to consider or much the same that has been mentioned?

Pretty much same carriers.

Singapore will be significantly more expensive if staying overnight.

Condolences to DL flyers trying to get to HKT. I've done it twice in the last month on *A. Once through FRA and once through NRT. Ton of availability in low F (whoops they don't have F on SkyTeam) for LH, UA, and TG. Great F lounges in both FRA and BKK (whoops they don't have IFC lounges on SkyTeam). The TG F suites on the 777-300ERs are incredible (you literally don't want to get off the airplane.)

A few things I would advise,
1. spend the extra money and fly Thai Airways BKK-HKT and you can fly on a 744 for the hour flight, get there early and ask for the exit row. Thai flies 744s x2 777s x2, 332 and 300 all to HKT.
2. Google Top Thailand scams.
3. Stay away from the Tuk Tuks in BKK because they will scam you and drag you to all these places saying they will get a free fuel card if you go, and those things are death traps.
4. When arriving in HKT go straight to the taxi stand to the right when you come out of the airport, DO NOT go with a taxi driver that approaches you before you get there, they will drive you all over the place, trying to get you to go in places they get kick-backs for, and you will end up in some seedy parts of town.
Stay Safe! Phi Phi Island is a must.

You might look at KUL also; again a short hop to HKT. If you are not set on Phuket, you might consider Krabi or Koh Samui. IMO, both are so much nicer. Phuket has really become a rip off. Good Luck

Everyone here has been right so far.

Air Asia, Tiger, etc. are all fine for the very short flights. I have taken them several times

Koh Phi Phi is a must and they have a Holiday Inn that you can use points for if you want.

In SE Asia I prefer the non-chain hotels myself as they are MUCH cheaper and good as well.

you realize your post is completely irrelevant to the OP. But, since I can't resist commenting on your point... not everone could be as good as *A I guess.

ATL to JFK or NRT then to PVG then to HKT direct. I have done this route before on all Skyteam flights (PVT to HKT was on China Eastern). Its not a bad flight and China Eastern is actually quite a nice flight to HKT.

Other options besides AirAsia for BKK-HKT are Orient Thai and also NokAir flies DMK-HKT. DMK being the old Bangkok airport Don Mueng, much closer downtown. I've flown NokAir and it was cheap and pleasant. Very old 737 though, actually had the ashtrays ductaped shut haha.

If you take the Delta flight NRT-BKK, and might as well fly NokAir from DMK so you don't have to go all the way out to BKK again if you'll be staying in Bangkok.

Other option is flying into SIN as I also did. Tiger Airways flies SIN-HKT and I think AirAsia too. Likewise, the Delta NRT-SIN flight gets into SIN quite late.

Yes, needs to be low to get it for free, even if a lower class of service. I would seriously do,your homework with the ExpertFlyer trial before calling. Agents will default to searching DL and quote astronomical mileage requirements. At a minimum, know which carriers and flight numbers you want them to check. A good agent will do all this without promoting, but it seems that they can be hard to find, especially since DL doesn't make it easy for them to do partners.
