Gate checking bags: Delta
Hi,
I'm flying SEA-AMS with Delta. I have 2 bags to check on an economy ticket. I plan to pay the second bag charge. Does anyone know if Delta will allow me to bring one of my bags down to the gate myself (it contains fragile things which would be hard to repack if the TSA had a look).
Thanks!

Gate checking IME is for "full sized" carry on bags when travelling on aircraft with overhead compartments that are too small for them...(CRJ's etc)
NOT for full sized baggage on wide body a/c......

You're thinking of (planeside) valet checking, or at least that's what DL usually calls it. Gate checking is the term that DL applies to bags that won't fit in the overheads (because they're full, not because they're too big), and they are checked through to baggage claim at the final destination. If the bag is roughly carry-on size, you might be able to get away with it, but TSA has been known to turn people with steamer trunks around to check them properly.
