Actually it varied from a few weeks before to a few months before.

My biggest "feasible want" (ones that I actually think have a chance of joining) would be the Virgin Airlines (Atlantic, Australia, and maybe even America)--they would definitely be a great addition to Skyteam. As well as MH. Although EK would be nice too. :D

Just wait until FR (RyanAir) starts TATL service. I'm getting ITH gets in on renaming its airport "New York City (Ithaca)". MHT will probably try to get Boston into its name. Oh, and for FR TATL, see this video. (The video is fine at work, but don't have your speakers up too loud for some of the comments he makes at the end.)

9W is good for the subcontinent.
MH is as good for the Pacific rim option.
The virgin group will patch some holes to Australia but not NZ.
Any One of the gulf carriers will make it work well.
Given Dubai's cash problems, the Abu Dhabi one may be more stable over the long term.

But SkyTeam has already invited a Gulf carrier in the form of SV. Oh, wait, did you mean one of the respected Gulf carriers?

Speaking of SV, I suppose I should write up the first segment of my TR on SV J, LHR-RUH.

Yeah, it seems that ST doesn't make good choices in who it entrains into it. That or you have airlines that are joining the alliance to give themselves a boot in the fanny to up their standard or so they can lean on the better carriers among them (you pick).

Bangkok Airways, Hong Kong Airways, Porter Airlines and the entire Virgin group (more so Virgin Atlantic and Australia and less so Virgin America and Air Nigeria)

SV for a partner is a joke. So is MEA. The last time I heard of MEA was about 4 decades ago. Father of one my friends in school was stationed in Beirut.

I wouldn't quite say that. It all depends on you travel patterns. Not unusual to see MEA throughout Europe.

Hongkong Airways? Other than the Virgin group these choices don't give more choices, add few destinations or increase mileage earning opportunity significantly. The distances involved for destinations covered by the regional airlines are so small that not having the ability to earn miles is not a big loss.

Yes, your travel patterns do make a difference. I will avoid Saudia to the best of my ability. I can assure you that no alcohol policy is not the primary reason.

+1

Trip report coming, but even in J, I would prefer never to fly them again. Alas, I do hope to get a chance to return to KSA, and since my invitation comes from a university (i.e., the government), I don't get a choice in the matter.

Air India.

(as I believe they could not make it for the July 31 deadline, so...

Star Alliance would not accept Air India and go with Jet Airways instead...

SkyTeam is left with the only choice which is Air India)
