Additional Driver
Hello everyone,
I'm flying to the USA in July and am renting a car from Sixt.
As the route will be a bit longer, I would like to book my girlfriend as an additional driver.
Is it "better/cheaper" if I book the additional driver online, or should I do this when I get there?
If it helps, I have the german Amex Platinum . (I know that additional driver are included in the us platinum card, but not in ther german cc)
Thanks in advance

I can't tell what will happen at the pick up station desk in the US, but personally I always add the extra driver at time of booking as it is clean, I know the exact cost and there is less risk of additional add-on / up sell upon collection.
I'd doubt it'll be way cheaper when doing the add-on upon pick up and the risk to get sucked into one of those upsell spiels when all you want is a decent car, correct rental agreement and leave as quickly as possible is higher in my book. Just make sure to present the driver licenses for both drivers and check that both are listed on the rental agreement and no extra charges has been added.

Have I understood correctly that in California there shouldn't be any fees for family members as additional drivers? Other rental companies seem to mention about this in their T&C but didn't notice any of this from Sixt. I have an upcoming reservation in LAX and will bring my dad and sibling, neither lives in the same address with me – we all do share last name so will the additional driver fee be waived at the counter?
