Sixt ZAG to DBV?

Hi - couple quick questions, and any feedback at all is helpful.

I've never rented from Sixt, but looking at a one-way Zagreb to Dubrovnik (8 day rental).

1) Should I pick up the car at their city location or the airport? Any real differences? I'm only planning on spending two nights in Zagreb, so I can either get the car when I land and pay two more days, or swing back to the airport to grab it there if I'll get better service than their location in the city (that seems to be in a hotel).

2) I'm a National Executive Elite - would getting a status match give me any real benefits (upgrades, better service?).

3) Anything I should watch out for?

4) I'm inclined to shoot for a slightly better car than a VW Polo - from a bit of reading, it seems like involuntary downgrades are common, is it even worth it to try to reserve a Mercedes GLA or better?

Thanks in advance.

I rented a car for 7 days from Sixt Croatia in Dubrovnik and it was OK.

Sixt was the cheapest offer at DBV and picking it up was relatively quick and easy. The only problems was the car exterior was dirty and a 10 min traffic jam when exiting the rental parking lot. Nobody mentioned anything but I guess I got an upgrade to CWMR instead of the booked EBMR. (Ford Focus SW instead of a VW Polo)

However, return was a total mess. We spent at 30-40 minutes waiting in midday meditteranean sun (+35 Celsius) in a parking lot while a single agent processed returns and handled complaints. The agent then tried to overcharge me for returning the car with a half-empty tank despite it being clearly marked in the check-in protocol. She was probably just tired from the heat and too many customers, really management was to blame here for setting up an inadequate system, and the employees told me that it's mainly a problem in Saturday peak hours.

Sixt Croatia compensated 35 EUR after complaining (out of 120 EUR total end price) so I'm not unhappy with the rental. I'd be much happier though if the experience had been better.

It feels to me that Sixt Croatia cares about customers, but I wouldn't expect a smooth experience yet, perhaps they'll improve over time.
