Sixt: basic question about insurance included
I have a Sixt rental coming up in a few weeks. Pick-up is NCE, drop-off is MUC, and we will drive through Italy, Slovenia, and Austria in addition to France and Germany.
My U.S. auto insurance does not cover Europe. I have a variety of credit cards that would provide different auto insurance benefits for Europe.
My quote from Sixt mentions nothing about insurance included or not included.
So I have three questions:
(1) What cover, if any, is provided with any rental as part of the base rate? (In the U.S., it's the state-minimum liability insurance. Is there something similar for this rental?)
(2) What cover will Sixt require me to prove that I have in my possession before I rent the car? (e.g., What will I have to show them to prevent them from charging me for their own per-day enhanced insurance package?)
(3) Are there any other "gotchas" or tips to make sure this goes smoothly?
I want to avoid getting ripped off, but I also want to make sure I have full cover and good proof of that. I have a couple of credit cards I can use that provide secondary cover but I might be willing to buy something additional if there's a worthwhile product out there to consider. (Amex doesn't apply to rentals commenced in Italy but makes no mention of rentals that pass through Italy. I'd probably stick with one of my other cards that has no Italy exclusion whatsoever.)
Just wondering what to expect and what I can do ahead of time, if anything. Thanks!
