Well I am willing to give sixt another chance after my last fiasco (trying to bill me 700+ euros for damage that was not caused by us) and the time before giving us a car that was so far in disrepair. (shock was basically blown and the front end had essentially no paint left)... All that aside I find their prices to be competitive and they have a great vehicle selection. (and an easy location in munich that is right across from the hauptbahnhof). Also being used to having elite status with national I am used to an upgrade here or there... but oh well c'est la vie!

Maybe one of the lurkers can weigh in on this. I have searched over and over. The last few times the cars weren't "fun" to drive (slow diesel's)... Being a bit of a car enthusiast I am looking for something a little out of the norm.

I was quite pleased to find a VW Scirocco available for rent. I would love to have a taste of this foreign fruit to us north american folk. I know this car is available in a 2.0L TDI, A 2.0L Turbo GAS engine (the one i want)... The other option I was considering was a BMW 1er Cabriolet and a BMW 3er sedan. Since they give no real model designation I would love to know what kind of engine is found in these. I have searched the internet and can't find much... So maybe one of the lurkers could answer OR someone who may have rented these from sixt before!

Can't help you out on the Scirocco but i've rented a lot of Bmw 1 Series from all round Europe and i've mostly had 118d's, 120d's and very occasionally a 118 petrol. I'm a big diesel fan but understand if you want something that revs a bit stronger and is more fun.

don�t know exactly about the VW engine spread at SIXT as I motly rent BMW and Mercedes.

The engines for the 1 series BMW (convertable as well as sedan) as well as for the 3 series are very often diesel, starting with the 118d / 318d.

You should add a request to your booking asking for a gas-engine with many horse-powers.

They mostly offer the 118i / 318i, 120i / 320i and sometimes even the 325i (never saw a stronger 1 series gas engine with SIXT).

Believe me, all of them offer decent power and granting fun on your ride.

If you really like a fun car: go for the BMW Z4, starting with 204 hp with the 2.3 engine.
SIXT also has the 3.0 and the 3.5 engines in the fleet.

All of those cars really are great cars and guarantee fun !

But keep in mind: the 1 series conv. and the Z4 really have very small trunks, offering space for just one big suitecase.

You are just one of many who feel same way when they get to Germany. Want to rent a raicy car. They have a special going on for M3 cabrio (99 EUR daily if rented for 7 days). You may want to check if that is available...note km is limited to 300 per day.

For VW Scirocco I have seen only 2.0 TDI

Unfortunately, they currently have just a small number of 'Roccos' in the lot. You have to be very lucky to catch one of those. There's also a small number of Golf 6 GTIs and GTDs in the fleet. Getting hands on one of these is like winning with a lottery.
Just a while back, Europcar had 2.0TSI available, but this does not seem to be the case anymore.

This aside, I personally prefer Diesel cars. A BMW 320d might deliver double the torque compared to the dead-toad-slow 320i 4 Cylinder. (The Z4 2.3 can be tranqilizing, too )

As mentioned above, the best you can get in the affordable classes are:

BMW 120d (Hatchback)
BMW 120i (Comes as a 2-door coupe or conv.)
BMW 325i
BMW 330(x)d
BMW 330i/335i

Most 4-Cylinders come with a shiftstick.

I'll take hp over torque any day... at highway speeds tq is absolutely useles...

Although a 330d would be interesting... For me yes its about having a fun car (always try to find something out of the norm when i am on the road) but in germany its also so you don't feel like you will be smashed to bits when you are merging onto the highway... (118d and a b160 cdi both provided for some interesting experiences trying to get up to speed ha!). At home I drive V6 diesel touareg and I had a VW Jetta 2.0T with an upgraded turbo etc for fun... but now I am in the market for something a little more stately (c class amg or something in that neighborhood)

That M3 deal is amazing... too bad its only for weekly rentals... Sixt must keep a very watchful eye for those cars hitting up the ring

SIXT is renting the M3 also for weekends, but with a slightly higher rate as 99 � / day. If interested you should contact the hotline.
If ordering the M3 you will get this specific car for sure with a special introduction by a SIXT employee.
This car is real fun !

BMW-1/BMW-3 from Sixt are usually 116/118 and 318/320 models. Never seen 330/335 models, maybe they keep them for friends and family

Had a 120 diesel on Friday in AMS. Nice car.
I haven't yet seen a 116 with Sixt. I pity the fool getting that one...

Yes, they have both the 330 and the 335 in their fleet.
But I agree, especially the 335 are VERY seldom.
I had them both, but just once the 335.

Now I know why I never go for the "Compact" size when renting a car. This car looks like a crime against humanity.
