I hadn't heard of the Halia restaurant - would this be a better choice for a honeymoon dinner than Les Amis? |

Go to the original place on Serangoon Road. Plan on communal seating and a ghastly toilet--the type where you need to hang handbags/shopping bags around your neck while you squat. (Use the toilets in the subway station instead.) OK, so maybe that's not much of a recommendation so far... But the food is really tasty, it's a great value, and the family that runs it is friendly. It's also a good place to meet others. |
Peking Duck is very good at Lei Garden Restaurant Orchard Road opposite “The Heeren”

I don't know if this seafood restaurant has been mentioned before: the No Signboard restaurant, next to the Esplanade Theater.
We went there twice and it was excellent. |

Yes, No Signboard is quite good, especially the chili crab, though I think this has been mentioned in other threads.

The tea-smoked duck (S$10) and mapo doufu (S$6) are both excellent, while bowls of dan dan noodles go for just S$5. Open for lunch and dinner daily. First-time visitors (like me!) who haven't had real Sichuan before will be in for a surprise -- they use lots of Szechuan pepper, which isn't spicy at all, but it tingles and makes your tongue go numb for a moment. |

Suggestions near Carlton?
Would prefer casual dining so hawker or otherwise. Will be there for a few days with wife and 3.5 yo.

Roy If you don't mind taking a cab, then a good hawker nearby would be theGolden Mile Food Centre on Beach Road. 2 stories of a stand-alone building serving some really good food. Look for the stalls with tons of adverts |
