I hadn't heard of the Halia restaurant - would this be a better choice for a honeymoon dinner than Les Amis?

I think it is Au Jardin in the Botanical Gardens, which is part of the same group, I think.....

Halia is a nice-looking restaurant in the Botanic Gardens, right by the ginger garden. I haven't eaten there, but I have looked at the menu, and it is nothing like Les Amis, if you are looking for a big celebratory type of dinner. It does look like it would be great for lunch.

Go to the original place on Serangoon Road.

I am also a big fan of this place.
Plan on communal seating and a ghastly toilet--the type where you need to hang handbags/shopping bags around your neck while you squat. (Use the toilets in the subway station instead.)
OK, so maybe that's not much of a recommendation so far... But the food is really tasty, it's a great value, and the family that runs it is friendly. It's also a good place to meet others.

Peking Duck is very good at Lei Garden Restaurant Orchard Road opposite “The Heeren”

I don't know if this seafood restaurant has been mentioned before: the No Signboard restaurant, next to the Esplanade Theater.

We went there twice and it was excellent.

That's a good suggestion. No Signboard is the site of the annual SIN Run dinner (though that's at the Geylang branch).

Yes, No Signboard is quite good, especially the chili crab, though I think this has been mentioned in other threads.

:D heh - yeah, it's called "Out of the Pan", and it's certainly worth a visit. It's fairly noisy though due to it's proximity to the fountain, so don't plan on a quiet dinner here.

Was just there today. It's in the basement of Raffles City shopping centre. Certainly agree it's not the place for a quiet meal, as it is in a heavily trafficked area, but it's pretty good.

The tea-smoked duck (S$10) and mapo doufu (S$6) are both excellent, while bowls of dan dan noodles go for just S$5. Open for lunch and dinner daily.

First-time visitors (like me!) who haven't had real Sichuan before will be in for a surprise -- they use lots of Szechuan pepper, which isn't spicy at all, but it tingles and makes your tongue go numb for a moment.

I can now confirm that it is Hometown Restaurant. Mr. Megatop and I had about four hours in transit in Singapore and we made a special point to leave Changi yesterday for lunch at Hometown. It was once again wonderful. The cold Sichuan Noodles with chicken appetizer is delicious, and the diced chicken with chilis once again set us alight (in a good way). It's a fairly nondescript place but has absolutely wonderful food. We will almost certainly return the next time we're in Singapore--the only question being whether we'll have an open meal slot.

For crepes you should try Creperie Armen in Duxton Road, but don't go to the wrong restaurant ;) . And they have very good icecream as well.

Not sure how far you are willing to walk but if not too long then Raffles City has a reasonable food court there. Walk a little further towards the Esplanade and you will find Gluttons Bay there with some good stalls.
If you don't mind taking a cab, then a good hawker nearby would be theGolden Mile Food Centre on Beach Road. 2 stories of a stand-alone building serving some really good food. Look for the stalls with tons of adverts
