1st time to SIN questions
I'll be visiting SIN for the first time this month, and I have a few questions...
1. I've read that you can take either the train or a taxi to the city. About how much does the taxi ride cost? And what hours do the trains run.
2. Where can I get info about the free SIN tour?
3. For a 6am flight, can I check in the evening before and use the transit hotel?

Well, I hesitated to answer at first since my info is not from first hand experience, but maybe I can still help.
The MRT runs about 6am-12am. So for a 6am flight, the MRT is not an option. Taxis from the city cost no more than US$15, which includes a slight surcharge that is assessed after-hours.
Unfortunately, you can't get to the transit hotel without a boarding pass. And since UA and NW check-in counters don't open until about 3:30a or 4am, you won't be able to get a boarding pass the night before your flight.
However, if you want to visit the airport 24 hours before your flight, you can check-in and get a boarding pass the morning before your departure. The rule is is that you can check in starting at 24 hours before your flight.
Or, a less than ethical option would be to purchase a fully refundable ticket from an airline whose check-in counter is open when you get there, and then cancelling it after you pass security....

1.
Taxi: Approx $15-25 Midnight and weekend surcharges applies.
Airport Shuttle: $7 per way to major hotels in city area.
MRT: First Train leaves at approx 5.50am, last train leaves at 11.18pm. Approx $1.50 to city.
2. Free Singapore Tour counters inside transit area.
3. Which airline are you flying?

I'm flying NW, so the MRT is out.
What time at night does their check in counter close? Maybe I could check in around 9 or 10 pm and then spend a few hours in the transit hotel.

All the cost is in Singapore Dollars. But since you are arriving on NW, pls note that taxis will have a S$3 surcharge leaving the airport and 50% extra charge on the fare.
Yes, NWA counters only opens at 3.30am, no early check in, so you will be stuck outside even if you come to the Airport at 9pm the day before
