Hotels in SIN

My girlfriend and I are stopping over in SIN for a couple of days on the way back from Australia to LON in mid-September.

We'd like to stay in a nice but inexpensive hotel whilst we're there (assuming we're still talking!). Does anyone have any suggestions for a good property? Also, what would be the best district to stay in for a 24 hour city visit?

Thanks all.

Look at the weekly Hilton.com specials.

the few times I've been to SIN, I've been able to book the Conrad Hilton (VERY NICE, good location) for about $120 per night.

I've also heard that this hotel is nice for the price (about $77) : Albert Court Hotel

I just got a great rate for a room at the Pan Pacific Hotel, which people on the board said was nice. Total cost: $82 for one night. This is for October. Plus, I called up their 800 number and asked for an application to the Pacific Club International -- their frequent stayer program. This will allow me to upgrade to a better room if available when I check in. And joining is free.

I'll be spending 2-3 days in Singapore in September and am looking for a luxury hotel with more of a resort feel than a business hotel. I've stayed at the Oriental before. Took a look at the Beaufort on Sentosa.

Any recommendations? Four Seasons, Regent, Ritz-Carlton, Raffles?

Thanks!

Have you been to Sentosa? Was there two months ago the island had a very run down look to it, but we did not experience the hotels.
The Beaufort is supposed to be very nice, but Sentosa is not near the center of town if that makes a difference.

The Shangri-La on Sentosa is supposed to have beautiful resort grounds like the Beaufort.

Thanks, Sweet Willie. Yes, I've been there about 3 years ago. I saw the Beaufort, not the Shangri-La. Being away from town is ok. Which of the two would you prefer?

The Shangri-la in town is very conveniently located and has somewhat of a resort feel. There are about 4 large buildings around a courtyard which houses a swimming pool, some practice golf holes and tennis. They also have a squash court. I paid only around US$120/night including breakfast (one of the best buffets I've ever seen) using a corporate rate for a company I do business with.

Shangri-la also has an actual resort in Sentosa but, I haven't been there.

Can't give you feedback on the hotel you mentioned, but for $160SIN you could be in the Conrad Singapore, and you being a Hilton Gold will be treated royally!

Well, the location isn't that great unless you're in S'pore on business. (It's at the Southern end of the business district.)

If you're there for leisure, there are better locations, such as the Orchard Road hotel ghetto or the colonial district/Bugis area. I stay at the Conrad a lot, but the hotels in its immediate area aren't the best located for a 1st time leisure trip.

I recently got the Raffles Stamford on priceline for about US$74 total per day. (bid price $62, 4* Marina/Chinatown area). Once upgraded to Raffles Plaza, another time to executive floor. Third bid I got Concorde for same bid price. It is definatly not 4*, will complain to priceline about the misclassification.
