Well, if you'd could go to the city there are plenty of activities around - from Night Safari to Geylang...

Yes regarding customs. Regarding checked luggage - if you have single ticket the luggage should be interlined. Check with your airline(s) first.

Regarding cabin/carry-on - there are luggage storage opened 24h which is really cheap - no more than $10 for the several hours you'll be out. So get only minimum amount of stuff with you, basically only documents/credit cards and get out.

Most activities around the OP's layover time are Cash based.

Well, seems people are experts in this field based on their experiences... so, I'd rather restrain myself from commenting.

Night Safari is not open so late.

I'd say just take a cab and head down to Mustafa. Or Geylang if so inclined (though, plenty of tasty food!)

At the time of OP's SIN layover he would definitely need cash for any activities, not just documents and credit cards. I don't think there are too many good eats at that time that will take AMEX!

Since my US bound flight departs SIN before sunrise I usually spend my last night's per diem on street food and beverage, shower and change at SIN and sleep until NRT. My SINful last supper!

Isn't the Night Safari really open during the evening and not the middle of the night?

Depending on your age, there are plenty of good clubs around in Singapore. So if you want to go clubbin there is a very high chance a top DJ is spinning. Else a fun thing to do is to go to Geylang.. or if you are shop minded go to the district where the malls are basically open 24/7.

Like Invisible said you can drop your luggage off at the airport and store it there for just a few bucks!

I meant Mustafa's sorry.. not really a district As far as other Malls, I have experienced sometimes that several stores were still open very late at night.. even at midnight. Can't remember if it was because of a sale/promo thingy. One was at Nicoll Highway and also was one at Orchard but can't remember which of the malls it was.. since there are so many @ Orchard :P
