I'll be in transit through SIN in FEB.
Arriving from HKG on CX and after 5 hrs. continuing to DPS on AirAsia (LCC).
From what I understand , the AirAsia flt. departs from the "budget terminal"
My question is :Can I remain airside during the transit or do I have to pick up my checked luggage and go through immigration/customs.?

Air Asia (AK) is an LCC but (if my understanding is correct), it doesn't depart
from Budget Terminal. Also, you are connecting from CX to AK.
Can you check in your baggage all the way to DPS ?
Otherwise, you'll have to pick it up and go through the immigration and

The bad news is that Air Asia does not interline with any other airline. So on arrival at SIN, you'll have to legally enter Singapore (ie go through passport control and customs, retrieving your bag on the way) then go up to the departures level (groundside) to check in at the Air Asia counter. Then you go through passport control again in order to go airside.
I suppose you want to stay airside as much as possible because... ? A five hour layover is just long enough to go to one thing in Singapore. Alternatively you don't have to go through passport control right away. You can hang out airside for an hour or so before going to retrieve your suitcase and checking in (arriving and departing passengers mingle together airside, unlike HKG where they are separated).
One other thought: don't overload your suitcase. CS will should let you put 20kg free of charge, but Air Asia will charge.

through to DPS and see what will happen.
By the way, I have already paid to Air Asia (on line) for 2 pcs. of checked luggage
(20Kg each).
