Question EZ-Link replacement

I have an old-style EZ-Link card and was not in Singapore during the transition period to the CEPAS version.

Should I just toss the old card or is there still some benefit to handing it in when purchasing a CEPAS compliant card?

Thanks.

EZ-link has a non-refundable deposit element included. So at most you can get back your remaining usable value in your old card. During the transition period they allowed you a 1-to-1 trade in to the new CEPAS card at no addition cost. But since that period has passed you need to purchase a new card with a non-refundable deposit included again.

Don't chuck the old card -- you'll lose the deposit, but any remaining value can be transferred onto a new card at any MRT station for 12 years (!).

I plan to buy a couple of ezlink cards for my Singapore visits and keep them topped up.

Does the new ezlink card expire if it isn't used for a time? Does the card effectively last for "ever"? Can't find the info on their website!

I use my ezlink only twice/three times a year when Iam back in Singapore. The longest period I didnt use my ezlink card was about one year. I didnt experience any problems at all.

Thanks for your trouble ..... and obviously expect the card to last a year or so ..... hopefully someone will provide a definitive answer as some of my family will join us every other year.

I haven't seen any info regarding expiration due to lack of use. The card has a lifespan of 5 years.
