DPS-SIN-DPS using *A Award

Using ANA tool, I tried to find a single ticket for DPS-SIN-DPS in J, but could not find availability for any day in May until Sept (did not check beyond that). Even a single Y seat was hard to come by.

What's happening?

it was mentioned in a post on the BMI forum a few weeks ago that redemption seats on this route suddenly seem to have dried up

Every time I have taken these flights, planes were packed..... So I am not surrised that SQ limits availability. If I fly there from SIN, I usually have to book Y fare bucket, since no discounted fares are available, even several month ahead......S

Dummy bookings via Krisflyer also showed many waitlisted J Savers on many flights.

J is normally available on this route via krisflyer. Y on the other hand is harder. I have had luck getting them in both short notice and long term planning. YMMV. There are also variation between the flights. Most popular is the morning flight.

I just used Delta miles to book flights in F on SQ from LAX-SIN-DPS X BKK-SIN-LAX for travel next February 2010. F was avaliable on the LAX-SIN SQ11 and SIN-LAX SQ12 segments but I had to accept Y on both the SIN-DPS and BKK-SIN segments because J was not available.

The worst part about this is that I don't get lounge access prior to the Y segments.

Paul3456, I have had success in gaining access to the lounge in DPS when I used money to purchase a Y-class ticket on SQ due to my United status. If you have status on UA, you may still gain access to the gold lounge in Singapore and the DPS lounge in Denpasar. If not, you can still access lounges if you have a Priority Club card.

Funnily enough I came to this forum to ask this question.

There is something going on. I don't mind flying any day from June till a year later. Have checked 100+ dates and not a single biz seat on any day. Have even checked for March-April next year, 330 days out when seats are released and nothing!!

SQ is normally quite decent at opening reward seats and there were plenty of seats available on this route just two months back. I almost booked one for travel in Feb around 10 days before I wanted to travel. Checking in Jan there seemed to enough availability.

Even last year I came across seats quite easily when I booked a reward in Oct. This year nada.... zilch????

What's going on? SQ seems to release seats on every other route but this one. Are they moving in a 77W? Is that why reward biz seats are blocked?

They just recently discontinued the fourth SIN -- DPS rotation (the 1300 departure from SIN) -- so, 25% reduction in capacity.

That'll dry up award availability in a hurry.

They had plenty C availability even before the 4th flight was started. There is something going on this route. No C award at all. Switching to a new regional C?

I think that seems to be the only explanation right now. Very annoying though.

What "new regional C" would there be to switch to between SIN and DPS? All the A333s are committed elsewhere through most of the 2010 schedule, and I seriously doubt SQ is going to put a reconfigured 773 with three classes on the DPS turn.

Isn't that the only reason SQ block seats though. *A seats are not available on their newer products otherwise you can pick up a seat on virtually every other route they operate on.

You are right though, makes no sense to fly a new config on this route.

Maybe a very long shot but could it be that they blocked seats after the recent mistake DL fare which routed NYC-CDG-SIN-DPS with the last segment on SQ. They must have had a huge number of bookings on this mistake fare and thus decided to shut up shop for any more free or cheap seats.

Just my 2c's as I honestly can't think of any other reason.

It has not been available way before the JFK-DPS deal.
