Minimum checkin time at BKK ?

Can anyone confirm what the latest checkin time is for SQ in BKK ?.

I am due to do a (very) quick turnaround next weekend to finish one RTW and start another. I will be doing SGN-SIN-BKK arriving on SQ66 at 17.20, then am due to get back on SQ69 to SIN at 18.30. To add to the fun I will have checked luggage. Missing it would be a real pain as I am on the Sunday morning flight to ICN.

Possible unforseen delays apart, am I pushing it a little too much here ?. Any comments appreciated. Paging Savage25 ?

It seems that SIA has standardised all check-in time in that the counters will close 40 minutes prior to scheduled departure time. You can read the info at this website.

Thanks but that's for flights ex-SIN. I'm looking at ex-BKK down to Changi.

On a related note this new gate closing 10 minutes before departure at Changi is going to cause some fun. I did SQ219 to SYD last week which is due to leave at 09.40, but at 09.35 when I finally boarded there was still a good 50/60 pax behind me. The logic of having just 1 person processing the boarding cards for a packed 744 is one that I haven't managed to grasp yet.

Ask and ye shall receive...

Latest checkin time at BKK used to be 30 min before the flight, but it has been updated to 40 min. See http://img.singaporeair.com/pdf/engl...ers_timing.pdf

Although, since you're flying SQ all the way, couldn't you get your baggage checked through in SGN for all the legs: SIN-SIN-BKK-SIN, even if its on separate tickets?

SQ66 turns around as SQ69, so you'll even get the same crew back

Or how about checking bags only to SIN, leave them there while you do SIN-BKK-SIN and check them back in for ICN? (Looks like you have plenty of time before the ICN flight to do this.) Being Singapore I presume the bags are safe if you simply dont claim them (due to tight connection arriving from SGN and leaving for BKK).

The only problem I see is your baggage. Since it is the same aircraft taking you back to S'pore from BKK, no matter what time it arrives in BKK, you'll be able to turn around and get on the flight back to SIN.

The best option is to get your boarding passes all the way through at SGN, which they should do. If not, without baggage, you can still just transit at BKK, picking-up your boarding pass at the transfer desk, and shouldn't have a time problem.

But if you have to get your bags in BKK, you could have problems since you have to go through immigration, wait for your bag, and then go upstairs to check back in.

Either have them check the bags all the way through to match your actual itinerary, or let them sit in SIN until you get back from BKK.

Thanks for the comments and advice.

I agree that luggage is the problem and if I can sort that then it will be pretty easy, barring an unusually long delay leaving SGN. I have known the immigration people there to hold a/c up before due to half the pax being stuck in a queue .

I am not sure trying to explain to the staff on the ground at SGN to check my bags to SIN but give me another 2 onward boarding cards will make much sense. I wonder if I could get the bags checked SGN-SIN-BKK-SIN ?

I suppose I could have a chat with the IFS on SIN-BKK and say "I am coming back to Changi with you, DO NOT leave without me"

Many times I travel I cannot get BP for all my sectors but bags tagged all through. Dont see why cant do it in reverse?

If questioned you could always say something about wanting to add some duty free to your luggage or have to mail something from Singapore?

Please let us know how you get on.

The comment about problems from SGN wasn't because of what I want to do, more to do with knowing what the ground-staff are like. Just trying to get the seat you want there can be an adventure.

SQ here have suggested trying to get luggage to SIN only and putting it in left luggage (is there this facility ?) but I only have 50 minutes so that may be awkward. I am toying with the idea of taking 2 decent sets of hand luggage instead.

I will let you know how I get on, good or bad .

I'll let you know tomorrow . I've got a little 'deal' with SQ over the luggage so I'm now more worried about the 50 minutes connection from SGN to BKK flight with the new 'clamp down'. If we're running a little late (not uncommon from SGN) and they won't let me on SQ66, one will not be amused as it will cause me no end of grief for the next bit of the trip. I've also got to be up in the morning after a Friday night out in Saigon .

Fingers crossed

Fine, with a little help from SQ (in MAN & SIN) and Changi. Will explain what happened later when I get back up to Seoul from my day trip to PUS.

Looking forward to your story - hopefully by Wed so I can learn from it and put it to good use.
