Award booking with waitlist on SQ1/SQ2

I am a newbie here so if this has been answered previously, you have my apology. I read through the other thread on award waitlist but it does not answer my question in an exact fashion.

I am looking to book SQ1/SQ2 for SFO<->HKG in F for my wife. For the SQ1 leg, the F-Advantage is available but the Saver is on waitlisting. The return leg is good with Saver. What is the best strategy to approach this booking? I called SQ and the agent suggested for us to waitlist on SQ1 and wait until the deadline is passed to book the same flight with more miles at Advantage level. I would like to know if this is the correct thing to do. (I hate uncertainties but also hate to burn the miles for no reason) We do not have status with Singapore Airline but will have a revenue flight for the entire family in J in July one the same SQ1/SQ2 route.

Yes. Pls put yourself on the waitlist for F. N if J saver is available, confirm on the J saver first. So u can change to SAver F if it is confirm

For SQ2, can just confirm on the saver F if it is available. It might be gone very fast.

1. Book the ticket as two one-ways, not a return. It will allow you to confirm the different legs individually.

2. Waitlist any flights you may want to fly on before booking available flights (As you will need to the miles in your account to waitlist on the other flights in the first place).

3. If F is only available to waitlist at Saver level in one direction, consider doing that first and then lock in seats in J at Saver level or F at Advantage level - provided they are available, of course. Should your waitlist clear, you can then cancel the earlier confirmed reservation against a fee and have the F Saver ticket issued.

4. Act fast when you see availability; these seats usually don't hang about.

Can I waitlist on the same flight which I booked in F Advantage? And I only need the miles in the account to waitlist the flight then I can book the Advantage seat?

Also, how will this play out? Let's assume that I am booking 10/20 F advantage and is wait list on 10/18, 10/19 and 10/21. And if one of the 3 days worked, do I need to call SQ to cancel the 10/20 booking and redeposit the miles into the account before I can book? I don't mind the redeposit fee but will there be a lag for redepositing the miles? I don't want to have the extra 104k miles on standby and would like to use the same miles I book the F advantage right a way. Can I even do the cancelling and rebooking online?

Thanks for your help and information. I am new to this so this is very helpful.

@NetJets Germany @sbs2716g
I booked my wife on SQ1 F Advantage and waitlisted on two other days for F saver and booked the return SQ2 on F Saver. Many thanks to your guidance as I am a newbie at this.
