Scoot, TigerAir to join Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer

Scoot and Tigerair will join Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer frequent flyer scheme, allowing KrisFlyer miles to be earned and burned on both low-cost airlines.

Yeah just saw the news as well.

Interesting part is earning miles on budget flights. Wonder how much miles can we earn considering the cheapest fare on SQ only earns 10%. Maybe TR and TZ can earn 5%.

It'll be interesting to see how this turns out but generally I've not been a massive fan of these types of tie-ups.

The way it works in Jetstar/Qantas land, is that you pay extra to get a bundle that includes points, free seat selection, a food voucher or meal (long haul). The cost is not a lot, but the benefits are barely worthwhile for non-status passengers, but worthwhile if earning a status bonus of 50,75 or 100%. Will be interesting to see what SQ do.

It's making QF looks like going in reverse and being the market leader at the same time...

This is great news in deed, at least for my case. I often fly SIN/HAK and all along I'm paying but nothing to clock.

A mile is a mile.

Anyway, let's see what are the details to see if it's worth it.

That's a good step forward... but with the current SQ's redemption rates for short-haul flights, the addition of YQ and the surcharges, sometimes equal to SQ's promotional commercial booking price. Thus making such redemption pretty pointless.

With TR as a short-medium haul carrier, it would be interesting on how the respective burn rates and applicable "redemption surcharges" that would be required.

And i would also presume elite miles would not be earnable on TR or Scoot too...

.
Even comparing to non-promotion price, it is pointless. Those charges can amount to half of the total fare.

redemption is only good for business class and above.

Pointless otherwise

Odd. The CNA reports about redeeming points for vouchers to pay towards tiger or scoot flights. Its does not talk about earning ff miles on them though.

Voucher redemption by April 2015. Miles earning by the end of the year.

I don't think so, even SilkAir is not part of StarAlliance.

And if looking for other precedents (or lack therefore) for LCCs: Germanwings is not part of star alliance, Jetstar and Vueling are not part of oneworld, despite all three airlines being partners of their parent company's main airline FF program (LH, QF & IB respectively).

I assume that Tiger and Scoot are for redemption only, not for accrual.
Anyway, it doesn't really matter to me coz I wouldn't spend my KF miles for those LCC.
