Absolutely would have been right for OP to complain. No way can you call that First Class.
I find it essential to travel with noise-reduction earphones, and not just air travel.
I've even invested in a pair of customized earplugs and wouldn't leave home without them.

If the cabin attendants did not alleviate the situation I would go so far as to take their names and tell them that I would be writing to the CEO and relate the situation and the fact the the attendants were allowing non paying passengers to occupy first class and if that is their policy I would like to buy a coach ticket and sit in First too.
