cnn nor singapore airlines are saying this. the quotation from the airline relayed by richard quest on cnn is that they "have no intention of grounding their fleet".

the statement + reality is that they are delaying A380 flights today to make precautionary engine checks.

This morning's CDG + ZRH flights have now departed with 6 + 8 hours delay respectively. LHR departure is still on the ground, ETD 19h00.

The message that I started the thread with was the exact message on cnn.com at the time. It was one of those Breaking News banners but no link to a detailed story. I did check SQ's website, BBC and a few others and google news at the time and no one else had that. Perhaps CNN jumped the gun on the story.

"Delays to A380 flights

04 November 2010

Our engine manufacturer Rolls Royce and aircraft manufacturer Airbus have advised us to conduct precautionary technical checks on our A380 aircraft, following today's incident involving another operator’s A380.

Resulting from this development, Singapore Airlines will be delaying all flights operating our A380 aircraft.

We will keep affected customers updated and more information will be provided once it is available. "

The following flights were originally scheduled to be operated by A380 aircraft but was served by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft instead in order to minimize disruption to customers:

* SQ221, Singapore - Sydney, departed at 0301 hrs (5 Nov). It was originally scheduled to depart at 2035hrs (4 Nov).

The situation remains fluid, and we are working to complete precautionary technical checks before returning all our A380 aircraft to service.

We apologise to our customers if the checks are taking longer to complete, but we seek their understanding as their safety is paramount.

The article is incorrect. SIA has not replaced any engines as a result of the inspections in the past few days.

"Separately, a Rolls-Royce RB211-powered QF Boeing 747-400 experienced an inflight engine shutdown after departure from Singapore to Sydney on Friday night. In an ironic twist, the flight deck crew from the A380 that suffered the uncontained failure the previous day were among the passengers on the 747-400."

Oh my, what are the chances of that?

Someone might want to edit the title of this thread as it might be scaring people into thinking that their A380 flight has been called off...

total misuse of the term grounded. affected 380s are being ferried back to SIN sans passengers.

Take it up with the news services that reported it that way.
