Since AC took over CP, has Aeroplan added any benefits?

There are innumerable threads talking about the erosion of Aeroplan benefits over the years.

I am wondering if Aeroplan has added or improved (besides adding Star Alliance awards) any benefits, for any of its 4 tier status (ie SE, E, P, and basic) and/or for all members, since AC took over CP?

1. You can get a toaster with Aeroplan miles

2. You can choose to pay more points for the same Aeroplan seat (because the old Classic rewards are harder to find)

3. You get to pay Aeroscam all those extra fees when getting your free ticket (3 to 4 times what US carriers have charged me when redeeming on their programs).

4. Aeroscam has you take the longest routings with the longest layovers when redeeming for tickets. (my personal experience even when trying to reserve several months in advance).

I'm sure that this has to be part of a marketing plan... "See Canada in 5 easy days"

Otherwise, there would be few travellers that would be willing to see Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon and Edmonton on their way from Toronto to Vancouver!

ok, to be fair, there is ONE benefit that I can think of (and have personally used) that I didn't have before:

The ability to use a SWU on an H class fare trans-pac. Kudos to Aeroplan for extending the use of the SWU down to B and H fares.

When AC took over CP, there were only SWU and NA upgrade certs (the SSWUs were a pseudobenefit added later on, which could be used for upgrades from virtually all discounted economy fares, except tango - however, in the process, the new SWUs, could not be used, except for full fare economy tickets (at least for North American routes)). At that time, one could upgrade from V class (and before the takeover, from any discounted economy fare) - therefore, the use of upgrading from H class is an erosion, not an improvements, in benefits.

When did this happen? When did AC reduce the availability of classic reward inventory?

where in my statement did I say "reduced"?

"harder to find" means harder to find.

My memory must be fading... I don't recall as far back as 1998 when you could upgrade a transpac flight from a V class with a SWU.

I do believe they did reduce the classic reward inventory when they reduced avenue awards. Classic awards went from 10% to 8%, with avenue awards taking up 7% to make the new total 15%. I do remember reading this recently, perhaps someone at AC can confirm ?

CP Golds (~ Elite) and Executive Platinums (~ Super Elite) could upgrade a trans-oceanic flight in any class using a "black" "any fare, anywhere" upgrade sticker.

That after some time AC allowed selected members to upgrade certain routes on certain fares does not seem like an improvement to me.

Ahh, the black stickers........I had almost forgotten about them.
