Changing FFP# [2025]

Hi,

On the back of the recent BA announcement, I have decided it is time to move to CX and try to make DM.

Is it possible to use my BA OWE benefits up until the lounge / boarding and swap last minute so I can start to credit flights to CX?

appreciate it!

Hello and welcome over. I was shocked when I saw the announcement earlier. I'm sure many of us here have abandoned plans to move over.

Yes, you can do the switch until the last minute.

also not including taxes and fees !! Would be ~25-30k by the sounds of it?

even SL/OWS is hard for a leisure traveller, 7.5k GBP excluding taxes and fees

OK, so today's challenge is to work out the cheapest way of maintaining CX DM (let's for a moment ignore the fact that getting there requires rather more). Is it really significantly less than HK$200,000?

Potentially by my numbers - one would need to spend ~30k GBP /300k HKD (including taxes) to maintain BA Gold / OWE.

6-7 round trips to Milan in J would net you 1200 SC, which is roughly 200-250k HKD? If you nest that trip within a few multi-cities ex-PEK/PVG/TPE I think you could make DM for less?

Yes for outports. No for ex-HKG.

From what i've seen, cheapest and quickest way to achieve DM with CX would be 9-10 trips from TPE/ICN via HKG to BKK/SIN/KUL/CGK in J. Roughly 6-8K HKD per ticket.

Ah, yes, OK. TPE-CGK is 140 status points in discount J and costs about HK$6300. So you'd need to do that 15 times from Green to get to Diamond at a cost of about HK$100K/GBP10K. And 9 times at a cost of ~HK$60K/GBP6K to maintain it.

As noted, much easier/cheaper for people based around Asia rather than in HKG.

I'd say ICN would be slightly better as you'd get 35 points from ICN-HKG as opposed to 25 from TPE-HKG.

The best possible way, out of the options I have suggested would be

ICN-BKK (via HKG)
BKK-SIN
SIN-ICN (via HKG)

This would get 175 Points.

Lounge Access with different FFN

I am wondering if I need to have my sapphire FFN on my boarding pass to access Cathay lounges, or if I can just show a different FF card for access. For example, AA Flagship lounges allow me to have one FFN on the reservation, and to show a different FF card, but Alaska requires the Sapphire FFN to be on the reservation. Thank you!
