Man in 1A thick with cold

In these post covid days what do people think

Spotted him in the lounge constantly sniffing and clearing his throat

We are in the row behind; other half is paranoid FP3 applied

I am quite laid back

What do others do when thick with cold and have to travel…..

Take whatever precautions you feel comfortable with regarding masks.

They have masks onboard, ask the crew to offer him one.

It's not ideal but I don't think it's realistic to expect people to delay travel on account of cold and my view is that if you are using public transport and in public spaces then you are going to come into contact with whatever is circling around in any event.

I'd say if you you are thick with whatever ailment such that you would stay home from work, then you shouldn't travel.
And yes, I think an annoyingly large proportion of people come into work sick when they shouldn't!

Really? Would that not be considered offensive to the individual concerned?

Frankly, it is significantly less offensive than knowingly spreading your illness to half the plane.

Indeed. I imagine many people would be inclined to politely tell you to FO if you offered them a mask unsolicited.

As impolite as loud coughing may be (and I despise it) we have moved beyond the enforced mask days.

I'd agree with this but what are the options? BA no longer offers flexibility and travel insurance generally requires you to have proof of illness for coverage.

Unfortunately if OP is concerned these days, best for them to mask-up themselves than rely on others to be courteous or getting the FA to force a mask on someone.

How did we all survive travel in pre-Covid times flu season…?
If someone feel strongly about it, they could surely wear a mask themselves.

We have no way of knowing why the man is travelling. It could be for a jolly, a work trip or to visit a critically ill relative, or none of these.

IMHO the issue is more with your partner and their perception of the need to mask up. Did they do it pre-pandemic for example?

If other pax ‘encouraged’ cabin crew to offer me a mask they would have a short, blunt, albeit polite, response. I may feel the need to recline my seat for the duration of the flight.

The pollen count is through the roof in London, I just walked through Hyde Park and had to take Benadryl to stop the coughing and sneezing. There's usually nothing infectious/contagious when that happens.

I recently required a sick note as I did not want to travel with Covid. Called NHS GP, said won’t get it as one can travel with Covid.

Any further questions

[I went private in the end]

Obviously, this would have to be done with diplomacy, maybe a quiet word with the crew in the galley? I would have no problem if I were still a crewmember politely asking a customer if they would like a mask.
