Tips for malfunctioning IFE (777-200)

Was recently on 2192, LAX-MIA, overnight, seated in Biz/F. There were some IFE troubles (throughout the acft, I think), and, as a result, I couldn't get my IFE screen to turn off.

Ended up covering it with a spare pillowcase so the bright "Welcome" scroll (which couldn't be changed) wasn't glaring at me all night. No other IFE functions responded, either to touch, or through controller. Flight crew tried restarting twice.

Any tips in those cases? The pillow case worked well enough, but maybe some super-secret-button-combo to just power the whole thing down?

I've learned that if you hold the power button down (usually just a touch sensitive power symbol on the bottom of the screen) for 10 seconds it resets it. At least on the A319s.

Good job notifying the FA's.

If you're flying on a wide body and they still aren't able to fix it, ask If they have a spare (clean, duh) food tray. Plop it in front of the screen inside the pillowcase to black the screen out more. The top of the screen may "peer over" the food tray, but it will considerably black the screen out more than just a pillow case, especially if you're in the lie-flat position.
